Grant 8: Bongrabo

Grant information

Recipient community: Women's association in Bongrabo

Village: Bongrabo, Côte d'Ivoire

Number of community members reached: 45 women

Description: The women’s association in Bongrabo first asked for money to buy a three-wheeled transport motorbike and agricultural equipment. This was sadly too expensive for us to be able to fund, so instead they wanted to use our standard US $1000 grant to buy only agricultural equipment. However, due to the Covid-19 crisis, prices went up, and they had to reconsider their options. They finally decided to use the money to establish 4 hectares of new farmland. This will help improve agricultural output and earnings. (Updated Sept. 11, 2020)

Farmland cleared with grant funds. Areas with less trees are chosen, and larger trees are left standing. This helps prevent soil erosion, lower CO2 impact, and is less invasive to wildlife.
