Recipient community: Yanmoutchekro (whole village)

Village: Yanmoutchekro, Côte d'Ivoire

Number of community members reached: approximately 250

Description: The community asked for funds for a local volunteer NGO, "Initiative Ivoirienne pour le developpement de la santé communautaire" (Ivorian Initiative for Community Health Development), to come and screen for hypertension and diabetes and educate about these diseases in the village. The money was spent on blood pressure monitors, glucometers, cotton, lancets, alcohol, gloves and transport. The NGO also offered deworming tablets to everyone in the village. Everyone with suspected hypertension/ diabetes was referred to nearby health clinics. The equipment will be kept in the village, so the patients diagnosed will be able to use it. The NGO volunteers will come back and follow up on diagnosed patients and keep monitoring for new cases of hypertension and diabetes in the village.
